Glenn Gabe decided to run the visibility numbers for the 380 sites he’s tracking closely that were heavily impacted by the September HCU(X).
He wanted to do that since we are almost two weeks out from the end of the March core update.
Like Glenn expected, none have bounced back at all.
That’s not shocking since the update is done… but he believes we could see changes after Google reviews the form submissions.
But, he also just ran the visibility numbers comparing pre-September HCU(X) visibility to today.
270 of the 380 sites he’s tracking have dropped 90%+ since then (with many 95%+).
Again, he doesn’t believe all of those sites should recover, but some definitely should recover to an extent.
Something seems very off with the systems assessing the helpfulness of content within Google’s core ranking system.
Let’s see if things change after those submissions are reviewed…
These are the sites with the greatest % declines in Google SEO visibility between September 4, 2023 and April 22, 2024 (Sistrix data)
Gee, notice anything totally obvious, or is it just me, says Lily Ray.
Sorry to anyone who works on any of these sites, I know a lot of you are seeing this.
I just think the world needs to see this data.
This is not meant to be a reflection or knock on anyone’s SEO abilities… clearly there are bigger forces at play here.
It’s worth noting that Sistrix does not count Top Stories, Google News or Google Discover data in the visibility index score, so that’s a key piece of information that’s missing here, especially for news and publisher sites.
This data reflects purely the performance in the 10 blue organic links.
