I de-indexed 158 pages that were responsible for duplicate content (/tag/ and /category/), said Taleb Kabbara.
— CTR improved 0.2% — Clicks improved 13.5%
Content was not altered, just removed category and tag URLs from the index.
Those URLs are not exact duplicates, but they compete with original content URLs in impressions and rankings.
I’m sure there’s a formula in the algorithms that hits duplicate content recently.
I’m not talking about duplicate content across sites, I mean internal duplicate content -boilerplate content.

I de-indexed tab/categories last month during all the shenanigans, traffic went up maybe 20%.
I re-indexed them to test, traffic dropped down.
De-indexed again, traffic going back up.
This was all during the core update so take it with a grain of salt but timing is interesting.
I was suspicious of google caring about duplicate content as that’s were I was getting hit hardest.
So I’ve been rebuilding all my tables and shifting data around to make less of it.
Seems to be helping, but hard to know for sure during these troubling times.
It’s my internal duplicate content that seemed to be getting hit when I have too much of it.
The pages had a lot of content.
I de-index what I don’t have time to get to.
Content is all mixed.
Lens Reviews, Accessory Reviews, Memory Card benchmarks camera reviews.
My memory card benchmarks were getting hit, because they shared table data.
Pushed it all into JPG now they are recovering.
I’m trying to figure out where across the site I can convert more information into infographics on the SEO articles for Listicles, Benchmarks etc.
The core of the site is just my personal opinion on reviews etc.
That’s alway ranks decent or has improved with HCU.
The memory card benchmarks are difficult because it’s mostly the same story with most cameras, and cards.
So I’ve been really trying to get creative in making each camera have a unique presentation.
It’s been helping.
But I got the Spam hit it seems, not the HCU hit.
