Information about artificial update policy violations has been added to Google’s documentation in the Manual Actions Report.
The following appeared in the “News” and “Discover” policy violation sections:
Google has detected content on your site that appears to violate our Artificial freshening policy:
- Artificially freshening an article by providing a new publication date without adding significant information or some other compelling reason for the freshening, and/or
- Creating a very slightly updated article from one previously published.
Recommended actions:
- Update all artificially freshened articles to their correct original dates and/or severing any redirects between article versions, or
- Provide evidence that article updates were significant enough to warrant updating their publication date.
